Things that I've made
This is called 'Fox Box'. I wanted to play with proportions in this piece. I imagine being a tiny little fairy standing in awe at his feet and measuring no taller than his ankles! Whenever I have been lucky enough to make eye contact with a live fox, their glance has shrunk me. They are so much greater in statue than me.
I'm pleased that this particularly WONDERFUL fox has not lost his sort of 'determined' aura. I filled the jar with air from my own breath, a little secret that only he and I know:) I sometimes feel conflicted when I look at this piece, I want to be close to his tank top but he looks so silently confident, I dare not risk mocking him with my affection.
Just a little bit of trivia: the tank top is based on the same design as my Daidy's!

It took me a long time before I knew which one would be used for my next piece 'Cheep/Weep'. I had them collected together so they wouldn't be lonely and it was really important to me that they chose which one wanted to be worked on first. You can't rush these things, even though it can take months before an answer is revealed. Sometimes an answer will not be revealed in my lifetime. And that's ok.
I never would have taken one out without their consent. Sometimes you can be staring at them waiting and the pressure is too intense so they just go blank (and not to mention, there is the danger of defrosting). Nature will often give you nothing because you want to start your taxidermy transformation too much.
It is so funny how they just look like they do when they're alive and clambering over each other, weaving and tumbling, to keep their body warmth. But they're not moving in this photograph. The warmth is implied. I love that! The contrast between the fluffiness and the brittle, little legs, that's amazing:)

Pair Re-pair (Forever Friends!).
These two look like wonderful friends. It reminds me so much of my relationship with Thane, I wish that we had been twins, that would have been amazing! I would have given my right arm to have been cosied up in the birth juice bubble with Thane for those formative weeks. I have heard that there is some discussion about whether this piece is for sale and I haven't decided yet but as soon as I get a sign one way or another, I'll try to remember to put it on here. Thank you for your interest, that is sweet of you all:)

Cheep/Weep.
Eventually I made this piece to express the feeling of re-birth that I get in the Spring and also how sad I am to see the passing of Autumn and Winter. All the tears in my pieces are for Thane in one way or another. I wanted the tears to fall in a curves reminiscent of a rainbow. I often feel that my friendship with Thane and all my taxidermy is like a rainbow; something wonderfully mystical from a combination of sunshine (our fun times) and showers (natural fatalities).
In Cheep/Weep and Pair Re-pair, the sun came out while we were photographing these pieces, it looks very strange and makes me feel thirsty on their behalf! They are probably better suited to dappled light...
